Theme 2. Critical Awareness in the Wired Generation: Neuro Health and Media Literacy

Project type

Research: 4th year undergraduate student projects, MSc projects, PhD projects

In today’s fast-paced digital world, we have unparalleled access to vast amounts of information. While this offers opportunities for learning, it also presents challenges, particularly when it comes to understanding health and illness. The representation of health conditions, especially mental health disorders, is often influenced by media and can perpetuate inaccuracies or reinforce stereotypes. This theme focuses on:
1. Exploring how mental health topics are portrayed across various media platforms.
2. Understanding the influence of media on perceptions of health and illness.
3. Developing educational strategies to help people critically evaluate health information, empowering them to distinguish between accurate and misleading content.

Additionally, this research examines postpartum mental health representation on social media and evaluates the potential of these platforms as positive support avenues, especially for marginalized groups. This initiative aims to foster informed, critical perspectives in youth, enhancing their ability to navigate neuro health topics responsibly in the digital age.
